FXAA: The best Anti-aliasing since sliced bread anti-aliasing.

I found this NVIDIA GeForce driver update particularly cheery news as I am always looking for a way to make the games I play look less like garbage without turning my frames per second into seconds per frame. Since these new drivers apply to my video card, you can imagine my delight.

And now for something completely different.

Ever thought to yourself, "man, I wish I could use the portal gun from Portal in Super Mario Bros."?
Of course you haven't, but now you can.
Presenting: Mari0

And there was much rejoicing.

Bioshock Infinite... :D
Not a lot to this update, but the following videos speak volumes.

Hey, better late than never.
Seriously though, it sounds like a neat idea, and I like what this guy has done.

The mod is available for download here and here.

The following is an old Gamasutra interview with Earthworm Jim creator Doug Tennapel:
I have been meaning to post this for some time. It's a personal favorite interview of mine as he shares his thoughts of artistry, character design, the video game industry, creative risk, and of course Earthworm Jim.

For any who are too lazy to dig out your old Earthworm Jim cartridges, but would still like to play a few rounds (legally); some Earthworm Jim titles are available on the Wii Virtual Console (here and here), DS, PS3, Xbox 360, and Steam (this set includes 1, 2, and 3d).

Super Mario Bros. Crossover update

As of June 25, 2010, Jay Pavlina has added Ryu from Ninja Gaiden as a playable character to his creation "Super Mario Bros. Crossover". The lastest version can be found here. He also has some neat "Jay Talks Back" segments on his site explodingrabbit.com.

I have uploaded a "new" game to the flash games section. I use "new" in quotes because I believe it was released a couple months ago, and the game(s) it is based on were released in the 80's. It is new to this site though.

A tribute to several classic NES games, Super Mario Bros. Crossover was designed by Jay Pavlina at explodingrabbit.com. The game and it's use here are both nonprofit and for amusement only.

Fancy Vs. Nasty

This is NOT an official Valve update, but it is a cool collection of custom content created by one Mister Royzo for use with Team Fortress 2. Throughout the promo you will find several hat and weapon replacements for your client viewing pleasure.

The Passing: Left 4 Dead 2 update

New campaign, new weapons, new achievements, new zombies, new mode, and cameo appearances by the original Left 4 Dead survivors. Play it!

Last month's Portal update

The "radio transmission frequency" update was Valve's first piece of a larger promotion for Portal 2 slated later this year. I was blown away by the volume of conjecture and speculation this update generated. The full (and REAL) twelve page story can be found in April's issue of GameInformer.
Concept Art

Additionally, the original Portal'sending has been extended (though not necessarily changed).

The Gman's House

Although I still have content to add, two new pages are now available for public access (files and GW items). The files page is nearly complete, but I have much more to list on the GW (GuildWars) items page.

"[-]March 1, 2010 - Portal Update Released

Updates to Portal have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.

Portal
Changed radio transmission frequency to comply with federal and state spectrum management regulations"

Technically this post is a day late to the Portal update, but my client didn't update until this morning (which is what brought it to my attention). It does give me an excuse to do this site update and ramble for a few minutes, like I'm doing now.

This particular update is a tad cryptic.
Included with it are easter eggs, hidden messages, and a brand new achievement: "Transmission Received"

I have long been intruiged by Half-Life's storyline and the method by which the information is slowly revealed to the player throughout Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2. The way plot elements are presented in tidbits from the view of Gordon Freeman only, add to the flavor.

However...

Even though I believed I had a decent grasp of the overall picture, I couldn't help but think, what if I've missed something, and what if I'm getting some of my "facts" crossed with that of noncanonical Gearbox releases (Opposing Force namely). That's when I decided to start searching and ran across this site:
http://www.members.shaw.ca/halflifestory/

The saga timeline posted here is based on the material and dialog revealed to the player throughout the official Valve titles and information provided by Marc Laidlaw, author of the original Half-Life plot. I found the culminated story here fit my own ideas of what might be going on in the HL universe. Regardless of your own plot views, you might find it to be an enjoyable read.

Additionally, there is a brief run down of the story thus far published officially by Valve.

Left 4 Dead & Left 4 Dead 2

The first Left 4 Dead (L4D) was released late 2008. I originally passed this game up because I feared it would not perform well enough on my system to enjoy. After trying the demo for L4D2 a couple months ago and tweaking some settings, I grabbed them both. They have been a blast.
The games' dynamics rely heavily on your ability to function as a team and each player's performance. For example: if one player decides to rush ahead of the group and try to be a hero (or get all the zombie kills) they will most likely become "incapacitated" in some way.
For those who aren't impressed by the AI or do not care for artificial opponents, both games contain versus modes which pits a team of player controlled humans against a team of player controlled zombies.
My favorite aspect of this game: it isn't another army game clone.

BEWARE OF SUSPICIOUS CHAT INVITES

Just minutes ago I received a seemingly innocent chat request from an unfamiliar user who requested I visit a "steam-like" page. The page itself is from an outside domain, although it appears to be a group invite.
Looking rather suspicious and asking for LOGIN INFORMATION, I did a quick Google search and found the following:

WARNING! - Steam Community Virus - Hijacked accounts.

The post states:
"There is a Virus/Hack going around that is using the Steam Friends
list to Hijack your accounts.
It starts off with you getting an invite from someone that is in youre friends list
that is sending you an invite to joins Steam Group Community.
The URL will end with STEAMCOMMUNITY.TK

DO NOT ACCEPT THIS INVITE

If you do, your account get's hijacked - you will need to go here:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-QDFN-4366

There are already dozens of threads in the SteamPowered forums on their issue, and
looks like Valve/Steam already have their hands full.
If you get that link from someone in your friends list - email them directly if you can to alert them.
From what I've been reading - It's been taking steam's support a week plus to get back to the people who's accounts have been jacked.

Anyways - Here's your PSA - you've been warned."

The link I received was "steamsommunity.tk", notice the subtle 's'.
Regardless of the url, don't give out your login information.

The TF2 WAR update...
For the next week, Valve is promoting their WAR update for the Demoman and Soldier classes.
The basic premise is: Each time a solly kills a demo, a point goes toward the soldier class. Each time a demo kills a solly, a point goes toward the demo class. At the end of the week, the class with the most points wins an additional fourth bonus weapon along with the three new weapons they will already be receiving.
Check out the official Team Fortress website for details!

Major site overhaul. Same look with a few cosmetic improvements, and a tweaked interface.
I tried to eliminate some of the redundant menus and clunky navigation.
Hopefully these modifications will result in a more pleasant (and less confusing) browsing experience.
:D
